Yamaha A-S500 with Wharfedale Diamond 10.3

Hi,

I recently bought a new Yamaha A-S500 amplifier with a pair of Wharfedale diamond 10.3 however I seem to have large distortion at anything above medium volume with anything with reasonable amount of bass

Is this normal or expected?

I've got the Impedence set to High (6 Ohm +) and I'm using pure direct mode, so no additional bass, treble etc.

I did expect these wharfedale speakers to handle much more power and bass than this, I'm a little disappointed.. I've tried various tracks and it's all the same.

Is this usual, or should I expect these to handle more bass?

Is it possible that the amp is too powerful for these speakers? Personally I'm thinking that the speakers are bust..

Anybody got any ideas?
