I have just been looking at - and comparing - quoted specs for various items. Amongst them were the Yamaha A-S500/700/1000/2000 series of amplifiers.

The three A-S700/1000/2000 amplifier models all have a 'specs' section on the Yamaha GB website. The A-S500 doesn't.

All but the A-S500 amplifier, are quoted as having 0.015 THD @ 20hz - 20,000hz and quote a worst case (max Power into 4 ohms @ 1kHz) THD figure of 0.7%.

The A-S500 is conspicuous by not even having a 'specs' tab to click on.

I have looked around at third party sites for anyone displaying A-S500 distortion figures and can't find any. (Not even the tech specs part of the WHF A-S500 review).

I know the A-S500 was specifically 'benchmarked' for the UK market, so I hope this did not result in success (good reviews, awards etc.) at the cost of an appalling set of distortion figures that they daren't quote!

Surely you should flag this to Yamaha rather than WHF.

Good idea. I'll see if there is a technical enquiries phone number to find out.

Thanks

Ok got through. Nice chap answered my concerns. From what he read out for me it seems the A-S500 is only marginally (and insignificantly) worse with 0.019% THD between 20hz - 20khz.

Given it is also the cheapest amp of the four, then nothing shocking there.

Mods please delete the thread if you wish unless this is any value to anyone else.

Yes I noticed that.

Got in touch with Yamaha, and they sent me the User Manual (as a pdf), which contains all the specs.
