Lost Angeles:zomer42:
For long keep 2 JBL monitor series 4411 for listening jazz with MF int amp A2. Recently incidently acquired 3 other smaller JBL surround/centre speakers so consider it time just good for a 5 channel AV
After some search, I'd like to select from Pioneer LX52/72 series, or Onkyo SR875/876. Or any other brand/models suit my speakers most ?
Further suppose a bypass function is later required for the AV amp.
The total area of my open type living + dinning area is just about 300sq ft (or 2700cubic ft) so the actual area involved for listening will be just half of it. What subwoofer, if any necessary, will be suggested (active or passive) ? Which model ? Or can I consider to add just later ?
FYI BD player Philips 7500 TV Sony 46x series
Many thanks.
You would probably been better posting this in the Home Cinema section, but as no-one else has answered I'll give you my view, for what it's worth, I have no idea about the Pioneer or Onkyo 876 receivers but I own a Onkyo 875 which were discontinued about 18 months ago so I would presume any 875 will be either Re-conditioned or secondhand. Originally they were £1000 and mine does everything I need so if you can get one for a price that suits you it may be what to go for, otherwise demo the others.
As for a bypass function, I presume you would wish to incorporate your MF int amp into the system to power the front speakers, the usual way to do this is as follows
1) The front left and right preouts of the A/V Receiver go to an input on the stereo amp (Tape 2 for example)
2) Some stereo amps (not many) have a fixed-level input especially for this purpose so you can miss this step out: set the volume of your stereo amp to about 10 o'clock and run your speaker calibration routine on the receiver. Then always use this volume setting on the stereo amp whenever you watch AV - overall volume is handled by the receiver.
3) When watching AV, have both amps on - the stereo amp will handle the front speakers, the AV amp will handle the rest.
4) When watching stereo, the AV amp is out of the equation so won't degrade the sound.
Some people recommend setting the volume of the stereo amp to 12 o'clock before doing the speaker calibration but if you forget to turn it down before putting back into stereo mode you'll half deafen yourself so 10 o'clock is better.
As for a sub I would recommend something like a Monitor Audio RSW12 or similar but it depends on your budget but you could always add this later.
Hi, there.
Many thanks for your kind advice.
Can I then use the said system to connect to a passive sub to make full use of all the powers of both amps to save total initial cost ?And which speaker output of the AV amp could I connect the passive sub to before I could afford an active sub ?
4) above - when I use the connected system for stereo, e.g. CD, shall I have to switch on a bypass or pure direct function key that only is available to certain models for pure original sound ? Do the 875 have such function equipped ?
Have a nice weekend.
