Why Write HDMI Reviews?

Why do forums and magazines such as WhatHiFi still go about reviewing HDMI cables when it is an established fact that at less than 5 metres there is no difference between them? (Spec number aside). For example a 1.4a QED is the same at £100 as an amazon one for £3.

It is a fact, so why have reviews?

Because they are "subjective" reviews.

Yes. All working HDMI cables give the same results. You know that. I know that, the rules for the format demand that.

But on any given day the reviewer may like one more than another.

For example, a reviewer that is an Everton supporter may really get deeper blacks and crisper treble from a blue cable.

And someone mourning the death of their cat may prefer black.

A fan of Ferarri in F1 may like the red and yellow cables better.

And who are we to argue?

It is their magazine after all.

I mean imagine, as a Chelsea supporter if you got a system comprising of a blue HDMI cable, blue interconnects, blue speaker wire and blue power cable...You could have a 1985 Anstrad system and it would still be the best thing you ever heard since yesterday.
