Why would i want a mains conditioner?

they're meant to clean up any rf or em interference you may have on your mains supply, there by improving sound/picture quality, as to whether they do/dont work is bit of a contentious issue

I just bought a mains conditioner for 30 quid (I won't mention the brand) and I must say that the improvement is insignificant.

Probably depends on how dirty your mains is in the first place. I have a 30 pound conditioner (Tacima CS929) and I did notice an improvement to the audio (which was a little clearer and better with subtle sounds), though not (to my eyes) the picture. I thought it was easily worth the £30.
