Why do my hi-fi speakers keep cutting out at when a song 'kicks in'?? I have to turn the hi-fi off and start again to get any sound through them, but it keeps cutting out , especially if I turn the volume up. Normally get between 5 to 60 seconds of normal CD playing and then volume cuts out, but display shows CD is still playing. If I play on low volume everything seems to work fine. Do the speakers need fixed / binned? Is the amp faulty (built in to hifi). It is an old Panasonic Hi-Fi (about 20 years old but £400 at the time so it's decent quality!). Thanks.

sounds like the protection circuitry is operating. first check all of your connections in case a fine piece of speaker wire is shorting the output. if this doesn't find / solve the problem, see if you can borrow some other speakers, if they dont cut out, your speakers are the issue. if the problem remains, sounds like the hifi is destined for the bin.
