I fell in love (living in continental europe) in the Cambridge-azur line and want to buy the 340 or 540 amplifier and cd-player,although they are more expensive here than in England, and now I must decide which speakers I want to add.In a shop I quite liked a pair of Monitor audio br5 speakers combining quite well with the Ca. I listen to alternative popmusic and would like to know what you think suit well to Ca ?Thanks

Welcome to the forum......1st post I see.

I have to say that the monitor BR5 should be a good choice. I have the BR2 connected to my 540 amp and love them. I tried all sorts before settling on the MA's including BW 685 (which I didnt like at all). However I would go for the 540 amp over the 340 as it has a fair bit more power and will drive the BR5s nicely.......

Stick around and you may get recommendations for Mordaunt Short and possibly Tannoys and Wharfedale so its up to you but I really like the BR2s with the 540 amp.....Best of luck...

Hi Andre:

Welcome!

Please go for the 540 or even 640 (should go cheap as 650 is into market). The following floorstanders would go well -

> MS 906i
> Diamond 9.5/9.6
> MA BR5

My pick would be the Diamond 9.x as these warm speakers would make the little excited CA under control for a lovely listen.

Definitely go for the 640A over the 340A! They're getting pretty hard to find, but the 640A's now at the same price as the 340A, it's a no brainer if you can find one.

Hi

I personally wouldn't go with Monitor Audio. That and the Cambridge (any of the budget range) on a long listen maybe a tad too harsh. I would certainly look at Kef IQ5SE, similar price to the BR5's, and with the Cambridge, a little more forgiving in its presentation.

Unless you have huge listening room, don't rule out stand mounted speakers. Look at Wharfedale 10.1, Tannoy F1 or Dali Ikon 2.

Good luck

So...what have you noticed so far.....one person says speaker A is really good and another say B is the best. Thats the nature of forums and hifi in general. Theres no accounting for personal preference. You have a couple of ideas in front of you to ponder over, what you now have to do is find somewhere to demo them. At the end of the day the decision is yours.

I go with the idea of getting the 640 if you can, especially with a discount price if its available where you are...continental europe is a big place....want to be more specific?

Thank you all for answering,it's very useful to me.I am a dutchman, moving to switzerland soon where I want to buy a new stereo, probably the Ca 540.Here in these two countries the brand Ca is not so widespread and a little more expensive than in england. The Ca 540 amplifier for example is at least 350 brit.pounds (and a pair of Ma br5 loudspeakers will cost 570pounds ).In the reactions on my question I noticed nobody mentioned B&W,like the 684, or a better type Ma speaker ,the sr6. Are these too good or too loud, and what about german brands like Canton? well if they are of the same quality I prefer speakers of a british brand of course in combination with Ca

Yes they did....I mentioned the 685 and I didnt like them.

mezzo2 standmount no brainer - had the ca setup with ms902i's they were great - the mezzo 2 are 3 times better, you can get them for £300 if you look about, add nexus stands and you still come in cheaper than what your looking at. ca and ms are basicaly same company so products are synergised, which is why richer sounds ( also same company ) allways reccomend them, but to be fair they are not wrong.
