Which player to give Sound & DVD boost?

My question is how much do I have to spend to get a substantial upgrade from my Pioneer Blu-ray player?I currently have the Pioneer BDP-LX08, which performs well but as with all geek's I am now feeling I want to get more from my movies. The biggest area I want to see improvement in is Sound and DVD upscaling, with Sound being the number one. The Hi-Res sounds good but when watching standard DD/DTS movies the sound is way off what I get from my Tag Mclaren DVD player from the same disc. I use the analogue outputs as I have an "old style" processor, which I will not be changing, so I need analogue outs on the new player. Regarding the DVD upscaling I find the Pioneer lacks detail in the dark scenes compared using my Tag Mclaren DVD player and letting my Plasma do the upscaling. Thanks in advance.

I was hoping for some WhatHiFi input on this one.Having read the site it looks like the options are the Marantz UD8004 or UD9004, but are there any others I should review?I have seen the UD9004 online for around £4,000 to that just about comes into budget. £5K would be hard justify at this time.

To be honest, I'll bet the biggest improvement would come with a decent modern AV amp using HDMI, certainly in sound, and probably in upscaling too, and no change of BDP would be necessary. But then what do I know?

You would not need to spend any more than the cost of an oppo 95 about £899 anything more is a complete waste of money regardless of make.

I also agree with the previous post that maybe a new AV amp would provide greater improvement.

Thanks for the reply.

I'd be interested to know your suggestions on AV AMPS you feel would give me an upgrade?

You would need to seek a dealers advise about this. (i did say maybe not definately).

On the Blu ray front i personally wouldn't want to fork out 4k even if money was no object i would consider the Oppo 95 a good as you'll get...... could be persuaded on a Pioneer LX91 but really why pay more even if you can.

Seek a dealers advise , demo your options , make a choice.

Good luck in your quest.
