Hi All

I have just purchased an Ipod Touch and need help on which Ipod Dock to buy. Having looked through the What Hifi magazine and various retailer websites to choose one, I am somewhat confused as to which one to purchase.

My budget is approx £140 - £150 and I would like it to have DAB. Can anyone suggest a decent system to buy?

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

You mention you need DAB - very few iPod docks include a radio, but several digital radios are starting to include iPod docks!

What room do you plan to use this in (kitchen, bedroom, etc?), as that could influence the size or style of model we'd recommend.

perhaps look at a dedicated DAB - the Pure Evoke 3 can be bought for £109 on play.com and then add a Russ Andrews GQ-24 mini jack for £24.

That said, you'll probably get much better sound quality by going a simply dock route.

If the Onkyo ND-S1 dock lets you output music from the apps maybe that could be an idea? That way you could use one on the radio apps (like iCarRadio etc) to access the radio stations. My Denon dock lets you access internet radio (where you'll find most of the DAB stations) but it's pants for scrolling through songs on the iPod. Maybe someone else can confirm this. I'm can't seem to get on the Onkyo site to find out.

Hi Clare

I was going to put it in my lounge. I like the look/style of the Gear4HP-400 ie little stand up speaker system.

Any suggestions would be much apprecited

Dave

Gear4 docks haven't impressed us to date - you can read a couple of reviews here.

The sticking point is your desire for DAB - I can point you towards some excellent active speaker docks in your budget range (from speakers like these Samsons, to Yamaha's wireless PDX-50, which can be had for £140), but none offers DAB. Do you have a wireless network your iPod can sync up to and play radio via that (output via your dock speakers, obviously)?

I know it's not useful to all but Costco have the PDx-50 for just less than £127 inc VAT. Well the Leeds branch does. Still a great price I'm sur you'll agree. They also have the Rothdock for £56. I know it only got 3 stars but that was based on £100 so surely can't be bad for that price.
