Actually there is a list of discontinued products I'd like to see back in production:

Sansui AU-999, AU9500, and AU917

Pioneer A400, and SA-508

Marantz CD63MkII KI-Signature (which I would buy immediately if the price was reasonable)

Mission 751 (the original version, so I could buy a brand new Rosewood pair instead of the black ones I've got here)

JamesOK:Minidisc. Dont know why, I just liked the format. Very good for in car.

Nice format. We've got an MZRH1 Hi-MD Walkman in the shop at the moment. Very nice piece of kit.

We still stock the blank discs as well and sell substantial numbers of them.

Two things MP:-

i) There's also the AU-20000 which was the absolute peak of Sansui's integrated line along with - and quite possibly better than - the 917 (the latter being the follow-up to the 717 which was released in 1979 I think). Now that would be a killer amp to hear as well as the ones you've mentioned.

ii) Mission 751s - I knew you'd grow to like them in time!

The main reason I didn't list the AU20000 is I reckon it would be WAY outside any budget I'm likely to have. I reckon an AU-917 would probably be at least £1k if Sansui were to make a comeback and re-build that model.

RE the 751s I really am starting to love them and I'm glad I kept hold of them.

Well, there is that; seeing the build inside the 717 was a jaw-dropper. There's no empty space going on in there and I think you're right about the price were the same amp put on the market now.

They're not bad are they?! Tell you what, don't let on to your insurer if you go to pick these things up...lightweights they're not; you'd do your back in!

Jim Rogers 149 loudspeakers. Aluminium cylindrical cabinet void of standing waves. Sealed, so possess a nice even bass response. Old skool KEF drivers (basically an LS3/5a in a tube). Amazing bass from such a small box, with virtually zero cabinet colouration. Would be nice to see an updated version based on the same principle.

Mine has just come out of my 2nd system and back into my first and I'm really enjoying the sound with the NAD CD and Mission speakers. I'd forgotten how good it actually is.

I'm not so sure I feel to strongly about re-surrecting old hifi. Whilst I went on about how good some MS20iPearls are in another thread earlier today, they, like most older hifi, can be either matched or improved upon with current products. You may have to pay more for the same performance but there's a wealth of stuff out there. If you'd say older/used hifi can be a bargain today, I totally agree, but only for that reason. Were it made today, that price/performance advantage may disappear when compared to modern products. As always, my opinion only.

What I can say though is that I'd like to see Castle return as a manufacturer and I did have a penchant for Pioneers 'stable platter' disc mechanisms.
