Where does bass come from??

Ive been enjoying my recently purchased Neat motive 2 and i am truley suprised at how low they go. Due to the size of the relativaly small driver i did not expect much low end - but am plesently surprised. It got me wondering- why do they go so low (for a small standmount). They have a better punch than my old B&W speakers and they had way bigger drivers? Is it not JUST a case of driver size?

Many many things will influence the amount/depth of bass a speaker will produce. Cabinet shape/materials/construction large among these but then you have the drivers themselves ie materials/size,cabling of course, which I at least say makes a difference and then you have the size/shape of the room. There are lots more variables but that should get us started!
