What was the name of this motorsport?

Hi. When I was a kid, Saturday afternoons had a sports programme called Grandstand. They regularly featured a kind of car racing that was on both tarmac track and dirt. There were Minis, escorts, Cortinas, Vivas and even exotica like Porsches and Mustangs. My favourites were the Ford Galaxie 500s. I am sure this wasn’t called saloon car racing because that was all on proper track surfaces. Motocross was motorcycles. What was it called?

Rallycross? Where touring car racing meets rally.

I think they called it Autocross. I remember it well. BTW, nice to see you, chebby!
