What TV?

Action-packed and thrusting existence measuring up the TV 😛oke: making phone calls to a couple of outlets to do a size comparison. As John said (thanks for that JD) 32" sets are about the same size as the old CRT.

Requirements (in no particular order): No wider than 80cm; adept at fast motion; budget £400 or less; must have at least 2 scart inputs; prefer HD tuner, although not essential.

A friend has a Phillips 32" and the clarity and detail is superb. Moreover the remote is one of the best I've seen on a TV; really solid, almost like Creeks. However the fast motion issue is a real let-down.

Suggestions welcome.

You'd have to see it for yourself to judge whether the motion thing is up to scratch though. I find mine (NX503) absolutely great on films but a bit rubbish on BBC HD for the football. YMMV.

All 32" TVs on John Lewis's website ( 23 in total ) have only one scart socket.

Finding a newish model with two may be problematic given that not much that you can buy now to plug into a TV uses a scart anymore.

Curses. I presumed it would have since mine does. Though 1 is better than - as I found out at the weekend whilst setting up a friend's Samsung - none. There was a weird 'external' socket that looked like a USB sort of thing and came with a USB adapter.

Mine is so good with football (on BBC HD*) that I even watched some the other day. (And I really hate football.)

*Freeview HD is still a novelty as we have only had it for a couple of weeks in this area. Some BBC HD stuff seems better than Blu-ray! We watched 'Modern Spies' episode one just now (recorded in HD last night), and some of the aerial night-time shots over London had me convinced I could see window handles if I got close enough to the screen!

Funny little (and short) story. I phoned RS Kingston this afternoon and told him my exact requirements - as per my original post - and he said the only solution was to spend £500 plus on a Panasonic LED. Then when I mentioned a TV on their website he said: "Forgot about that one. Yes, that should do you fine, given your requirements." Don't expect miracles from anyone, but spend an extra 60 secs or so and he could've found the answer without any probing from me.

Certainly have a look at these over the coming days.

That's with hi-fi and not TVs. Personally I couldn't give a damn about TV, but little'un needs her VHSs and DVDs (hence the 2 scart inputs) and err indoors like the soaps.

Fighting a lone battle here.

Most DVD players will have a HDMI output, if yours doesn't then you'll get one on eBay that does for about £20. So one scart is all you need.

BTW, if I pay for the TV in full do you think they'll hold it for a couple of days? (pick-up Saturday) Just that I don't want to miss this chance but I've got find the best way of dispensing with the old'un. Also I'm also tied up wth work and the car is due into the garage tomorrow for a cambelt change.
