what speakers pair up with naim? advice please

hi , just brought a nac 62 @ nap 140 (pre@power amp) got some naim speaker cables coming but what floor standers would be worth a listen? my room is 5x5meters i listen to mostly punk and rock clash, jam etc ,was going for cyrus kit and in a shop i listen too b@w 684s @ spendors but then a mate was upgrading i like the naim sound ,i prefered the b@w but whats best to pair with naim? also what about cd players would you stay with naim or try something else? thanks pete

Well, you can see what I like with mine (below) but to a lot of people they would be a bit bright. I love them though...

Naim recommend Neat Motive speakers and previous issues of WHF i have read back this up.

Neat Motive 2's are small floorstanders and highly recommended by WHF alongside the 3's which are standmount.

I have the 3's and they won against a demo against spendor, proac and pmc if that helps. My 2nd choice would be PMC.

The older Naim amplification was a little harder to match than the current stuff. You'll need to stay away from B&W for a start, as it just doesn't go with 'classic' Naim. At the time, the Epos ES11 and 14's were designed around them, but not sure as to the compatibility of current Epos as they're different now. I would imagine the Spendors should go quite well with the old Naim, as possibly the Proac range. Naim may recommend the Neat range, but I would guess this is for the current Naim, so check with them how they'll fare with the older Naim. Like I said, they are far harder to match with speakers, but done correctly can still sound awesome.

You will need to have a listen to your prospective purchase with your amplifier to make sure they work well together - if they don't you'll be left with a pretty mediocre system.

I'd go with the Neat Motive 2s, having recently reviewed them for a forthcoming issue of Gramophone.

Or maybe even PMC GB1is.
