What JVC did next...

Hi Claire & Andrew!

ÿ

I must admit I was very disappointed with JVC'sÿofferingsÿat CES 2009 - I really was expecting them to push out the boat for this years new models but it seems they are fixated on the ipod docking thing. They suddenly and without warning withdrew the Super-Slim DV9 series right at the time they were due for launch after making people wait the better part of a year for them and there was no information I could find whatsoever from CES by JVC on their replacements. I was hopeful something might materialise as they ÿ showed prototypes of the Super-Slim sets with RGB LED backlighting with 180hz earlier last year at IFA 2008 I believe. I would be very grateful if you could kindly find out from JVC if & when the next generation of Super-Slim sets will be out and what technological advances & features they will have over the current range. Any info would be greatlyÿappreciated!

Personally I cant see the real advantage of making the TV's mega thin unless you intend upon wall mounting them but surely at this point the wall bracket sticks out further than the TV? Or is there a planed thiner wall bracket to go with the TV as it obviously weighs consideribly less than current models so in theory any bracket would not need to be as substansial as current ones?

The only other thing is in some ways in this urge to "Go Thin" we are in some ways going back to the early days of Plasma and LCD in that the Screens are simply a Monitor and need a external Media unit which must be placed else where as as far as I can see there is no way they can have built in tuners etc in a set this thin.

Hi,

In many ways I agree with you - I feel too thin may cause operational issues (heat, crammed inÿcomponents, fragility etc) but rather than aesthetics, there is a considerable saving to be had as far as weight is concerned which means less expensive brackets and less loads for a wall to bear as well as the practicality of shifting the damn things easier. From a manufacturers point of view, it greatly reduces transportation costs and those savings can be passed on to the consumer. My main motivation is the very slim/narrow bezel - it allows one to fit a 46" set in the lateral space a 40"/42" would ordinarily occupy as so many brands do tend to have rather wide bezels. These days, consumers want/need sets that not only do not compromise on performance but also practical issues as well - I doÿanyway!
