Hey

Just had a message saying they would not put some platinum MA speakers as my avatar as its copy right.

But there are so many people on here that have copied an pasted pics, like matrix pics and pics of RX6 speakers also john duncan has a pic of a monkey, I know he did not take that pic a pro did, thats copyright.

So what is copyright and what is not. ?

You've copied it to your hard drive, and therefore broken the copyright. My spider monkey is a link, therefore I haven't copied it. The law has not been settled on this point but I think that generally embedded links are not regarded as breaking copyright

* but it's not my call really.

Just to be safe, I have changed mine from a scan of a dustjacket on a 1946 book once belonging to my father (a book I have had since I was about 8 years old) to another copyrighted image.

This time it's my own copyright.

I did not copy it to my hard drive, it was a link I put on my email and asked if that pic could be my pic.

Whatever will just leave it blank, too many rules for CERTAIN people

People have broken the rules, copied pics and asked for it to be their avatar and that was accepted and mine wasnt, why?

Like john said he copied a link and so did I, so he can have whatever he wants becasue he works for the company, but subscribers and customers cant. Uhm

Oh this is the link I asked to put on... and again not copied to my hard drive

Come on now, why are you accusing others because they didn't upload your requested pic? Try this one (with permission from WHF): http://cdn.whathifi.com/productimages/1183601d1th.jpg

By the way, did you try to upload it yourself, or did you email the link to WHF? I know there are some technical issues with the website currently.

You can use one of my Platinum pics from our Flickr page if you like - admittedly most of the pics are of bits rather than the whole thing, but if you see one you like, feel free

If you're going to start crying foul and throwing out accusations, canada16, at least get your story right.

The picture you asked to have uploaded as your avatar wasn't the one you mention of MA Platinums, but this one

http://www.petegardner.co.uk/images/work-01/nautilus-speakers.jpg

a particularly stylised shot of a B&W Nautilus, the link being to the original photograper's site, with the copyright assertion marked prominently on it.

Asking for trouble really...

OH REALLY SORRY, MY BAD. I was looking at the platinum speaker and copied and pasted the b&w just to try on photobox so I can start uploading pics on here of my system

Once again really sorry, feel bad now

*.

Sorry but that's total nonsense!

Any and all images you look at on the web are downloaded to your computer's hard drive in the process of web browsing. If someone puts copyrighted images on the web I can download them as much as I like. It's how I subsequently use those images that may infringe copyright.

It was a simplification, but it wasn't nonsense.

roger06:Any and all images you look at on the web are downloaded to your computer's hard drive in the process of web browsing.

True, hence the simplification.

roger06:If someone puts copyrighted images on the web I can download them as much as I like.

Yes you can, infringing the copyright in the process.

roger06:It's how I subsequently use those images that may infringe copyright.

So if you copy a DVD and then put it in a drawer and never watch it, you've done nothing wrong?

We have to differentiate between what is common practice (and unlikely to get you prosecuted) and what the actual law is*.
