Hi, Jax!
This is a classy system in a classy room!
Which of the smaller boxes is hte server? The smallest one? What is it hardware wise?
What is your control and library management arrangement?

Thanks old friend.

The music server is using an intel marshalltown mini-itx motherboard. Low power, low profile, low heat. Allows for a fanless installation in a pretty small box. In my pics the music server is the small black box on the lower shelf. I've got a 500gb solid state drive in the box so no NAS required. Since I use ALAC format that's plenty for now. By the time I outgrow 500 Gb I figure 1000 Gb SS drives will be cheap enough. I've also got an asus xonar STX card installed because I wanted coax spdif out instead of USB. It's tight but it fits and its never had a heat problem. I run JRiver on the server to play music. I control it with an IPad via Jremote app. The music server has no monitor or keyboard. I access it using windows Remote Desktop from another computer when I need to address something on it, but that is rare as the machine is solely for storing and playing music. Cost me about $1000 USD for the hardware and the OS. Sounds very good to me. The only improvement I'd like to try is switching out the Windows 8 for the embedded version which is a stripped down OS for this type of use.

Hi Jax,

Love this - very stylish without sacrificing sound. How's the Wyred for Sound treating you? Have heard great things about their amps but have never listened to them. Was considering it if I ever decide to get speakers as it's probably a good match for my DAC

I'm now a big wyred4sound fan. I just love this STi-1000. And it's magical being fed this cheap micromega DAC. The Wyred products are truly bargains considering the build and sound quality. I also really like class D. I've owned plenty of traditional A/B amps for comparison and if there's a down side to class D I can't hear it. To the contrary, there seem to be only checkboxes int the plus column. Light weight, compact, low heat, effecient power usage, and loads of clean power. Love it. Sounds very very good IMO. I just ordered the new Wyred DAC2dsd SE so I'll be comparing that to this 1/6th the price micromega. Well see. The Micromega is absurdly good sounding for the price.

Completely agree with what you say about sound and build quality. I wouldn't argue that they were stunning to look at but I reckon I could throw one at a brick wall and knock the wall down (this hasn't been blind tested though).

Make sure you post your impressions of the how the new Wyred DAC and your existing amp get along - would be really interested to read them.

Cheers

A dream system, love the soft green-grey walls and textured carpet. What does the Hi-fidelity quote say?
