Clare/Andrew - Did you guys ever review the Denon AVR-1908 amp? I've checked the mag and online and they only list the 1508 or 1708 which didn't get good reviews and also the 1909 which got 5-stars. Any reason why the 1908 wasn't in there? Was it any good?

Cheers.

I have seen AVR-1908, it stared the newly look Denon style. Denon is good. But the first HD receiver was introduced by Onkyo at the same time. This must be the rason why peoples were talking more about Onkyo, not the others.

In other case, I wonder why 1908 does not use the newer screen as its previous model 1907 which is better.

Have you purchase the AVR-1908? It is a new Denon product, must be better than previous 1905,1906,1907

Denon declined our invitation to send us an AVR-1908 to review.ÿ

Curiously, they couldn't wait to get an AVR-1909 over to us.

Thanks for the update Simon. As you tested the 1708 and said it wasn't up to scratch, could i assume the 1908 would've been similar?

All the other '08 Denon models we tested certainly shared a slightly subdued characteristic compared to more exciting rivals.... None of them were 'bad', however, merely outgunned on performance and features by the competition.

Much appreciated Clare. Looks like Denon had a bad 08. Still if the Denon AVR-1908 is going for £99 would you recommend this over the Onkyo 605 or 606 @ £350?

Is it a genuine, new model going for £99? That seems a little odd when a lot of people seem to be charging @£250...

Anyhow, if it is the real deal - not a refurb etc - at £99 it's bound to be a good punt as a standard AV receiver. Of course it doesn't do any of the HD decoding that the Onkyos do, but if that's not an issue for you, and you're prepared to live with a sound that might lack the ooomph of some of the alternatives, it could be a bargain buy.
