What HiFi Please HELP! settings Samsung series 8 46a856

Hi, i took the plunge and have bought this tv. I really like it and the blue ray picture is excellent. Problem is SD is rubbish! Please can someone help me with the best settings. I have no idea about back light and all that. On my last tv i just plugged it in and watched. Dont think i can do that with this tv. Used the thx optimizer on a dvd, but i really didnt see a difference when i moved things up and down, and i found it kind of awkward on this tv. I sound like an idiot but i need help. Somone must have this tv and mastered the perfect picture. Thanks
