I have just bought a roksan kandy K2 with B&W 685 speakers and would like some help on a cd player

my choices were: roksan kandy mkiii, marantz cd6002, arcam cd192 or cyrus 6se or 8x

looking for a for an all rounder as i like hard dance music, metal, indie, chillout......................

thanks

IMO i think you'd be best to go with the Arcam CD192 but also; dont discount the Rega Apollo CDP.

Its a superb CDP and will marry well with the Roksan amp and B&W speakers 🙂

Hi.

Purely for value for money I would suggest you also investigate current Cambridge Audio Products. The 840C is supremely detailed and refined. It also has added facilities which no other brands offer. The DacMagic is also very good and only £200.

Best of luck.

IMO, and listening to similar music as Peter26 does, i dont feel that the C/A amp would be right.

I found its sound to be a bit clinical and forward at times (vocals were harsh and the bass weight lacked at times). That was through B&W 685 and 684 speakers married with the C/A 840 amp and a NAD C352 amp.

Neither the 840A or C are 'harsh', far from it d_a_n1979

. They are probably some of the most refined and detailed products you'll find at anywhere near the cost and both are more than good enough to be used with good quality speakers. You may well be right and they don't suit the op. We all like different things. Clearly a question of auditioning and finding the right electronics.

Your criticism of lack of perceived bass weight is mostly due to the amplifiers control, not the cdp's (or DacMagic's )inability to produce deep frequencies. They can do that nicely.

In any case, the op is not looking for an amplifier.

Regards

DM - Fully appreciate what youre saying but what i said was all IMO and to be honest; we paired other CDP's with the amps we were using and they all sounded more meatier than the C/A CDP

I would head for the matching Kandy CDP. It has always been a great all rounder with plenty of pace, drive and weight. Def do an audition though to check for any harsh shades coming from the 685 tweeter...

It is indeed a nice player. Nothing harsh there. Very sweet, both of them, perhaps a bit much as a combination. Just the impression I had.

Regards
