Well i have just secured a fresh home and good job and one of my long waited perks was to have a good cinema system at home.

I have now been researching for 2 weeks and have come to few good conclusions on what to avoid but still confused whats the best i can pick up for money. What I need is a new LCD TV, AMP, Speakers and got the ps3 already to play my blu-rays. I guess i have pretty much convinced that for an amp I will go for the onkyo 606 but not really sure on the TV and Speakers.

For TV am not looking for anything big anywhere around 37" to 42" will do reason being this is going in my bed room innitially. all it needs to be is latest series and LED LCD. Seen and read all reviews i want to pick from the Toshiba Regza 37XV505D and Samsung Samsung LE40A6 . looking to spend anywhere in the region of £600-£750

For Speakers oh man! i went from Bose to Kef to mission to Qacoustics. I have rulled out bose for obvious reasons ( rubbish midrange) and Qacoustics for design. In particular am comparing between Kef 5000 series and Mission M-cubes, both unheard and just going by reviews.. Again looking to spend anything up to £1250.00 If there is anything better by design and sound quality i dont mind looking at one. Btw i just couldnt find anyone demo-ing the mission m-cubes if you know a place around london please let me know.

eagerly waiting

Hi there,

Sounds like you've got a great system planned there.

You may want to hold off your TV purchase until you've read our 37-40in TV Supertest - due out on Thursday. Both the Toshiba and Samsung are in that test, along with six other new sets.

Re speakers - would definitely hear before you buy. Click here for a list of three London Mission dealers who stock the M-cubes.

You could get the MT-30 set for that price too, if you haggle. Worth a listen.

Thanks, but you know what i went those two places in tottenham court and both were rubbish from sales point of view. I asked if they have a 606 and they guy went " yeah and pointed at it" i was like why is it not even setup no demo. just sitting in pile of amps with the price tag. Next thing i asked for were the mission m-cubes again the same attitude. No customer service and no intrest in making a sale. Guess the bank holiday break went up his head, lazy a*s. It just put me off and i walked out.

Guys never go tottemham court its pointless if you want demos. I am gonna search else where. Will post after hearing the Mcubes and Kefs whats good.

Demo the stuff elsewhere then go to T.C.R to make the savings. Yes, people will say that if a store takes the time and effort to demo stuff to you, they deserve the sale. If there was £10/£20/£30 in it, I'd agree. But I picked up the MT-30s as 7.1 for £1460 inc. delivery. (Oh yeah, none of the dealers in my area had the MT-30s in white either. PNR up at T.C.R did).

I auditioned a fair few speakers and found the Arcam Muso/Logo combination the most pleasing. They are a five star product but don't seem to get the attention from the forum (or the mag) that I think they deserve.
I would strongly recommend that anyone thinking about a small(ish) 5.1 setup should give them a go. I thought they blew the MT1 satellites out of the water for instance.
Can't comment on the PV1 as I haven't heard it.....but I wouldn't buy a 5.1 system based purely on the .1.

I can't stand this attitude. You realise of course if everyone does this, your local shop where you demo stuff will go out of business. What will you do then? Did you even ask if they could get the package you wanted in white and what deal they would do you e.g. "I've seen the package at this price at such and such, how can you persuade me to shop with yourself?". If you're friendly about it and always push a little bit (e.g. I can pay you in cash today), you'll be surprised what deals you can get for yourself.

Okay, in this case, it's very possible they couldn't get the speakers in white, in which case you'd have to go somewhere else, but to say the above as general advice is awful in my opinion.

Agree. After sitting with Audio T in Chandlers Ford for several hours, I felt I had to give them the buisness. Having said that, if they didn't have what I wanted in stock or wouldn't budge on price, I would have walked.

Is there a reason your set on lcd. The panasonic th42px80 and th37px80 plasmas pretty much rule the roost at your price range - just check out the plaudits on the forums

not really but for me plasma is older technology and so is lcd since i looked at led lcds.

I guess i am gonna wait till next months edition of what hifi tv tests.

I know what you're saying but it doesn't mean that you get a poorer result. Plasma is a tried and trusted technology.

surely the age of the techology is irelevant, surely the quality and performance of the technology is the important bit
