War of the Worlds - SACD - £4.99 at HMV - 5.1 question

just bought this for the bargain price of £4.99

i have an original ps3 that plays SACD so select the SACD 5.1 soundtrack and it will only display multich on front of my surround amp and will only allow me to change to stereo or multichannel not any of the other settings is that right?

Is your surround amp capable of handling DSD in its native form? If so, you could use a player capable of DSD output over HDMI into it and perform DSD decoding in the amp. If not, multichannel is the correct display, the PS3 performing onboard DSD-to-LPCM conversion: you can change from stereo to 5.1 by switching disc layer in the PS3 menu.

its an onkyo 876 was just trying to force it into 7.1 or any of the other settings for a play but wouldn't let me

sounds pretty good though!
