Hi, i am new to all this technology

i recently had Virgin cable tv phoneroadband installed. However i would now like to move my tv. Does it take an ordinary coaxial cable with the relevant connectors to do this? I phoned Virgin, who want £75 for a technician to come round and do it. They said you cannot use ordinary cable which may damage the virgin box? Also does anyone know how to get the connectors off from the Wall unit and the splitter - do you need a special tool?

any help much appreciated

its standard 75ohm double screened cable, there is a special tool, but you can normally use a pair of long nose pliers to get them off, they just unscrew

Yah. I took a hammer to the little plastic box on the wall though - it's standard coax but with cable/satellite plugs on each end, as opposed to aerial connectors.

the hammer is a quicker method lol, they can be a bit fiddley to get off, oh yeah the connections are what they call "f connectors" if you need to get hold of some

Thanks for the replies

Are they f-connectors at both ends?

also thought i'd mention that if you have trouble removing the cable at the isolator(box on the wall) end, can be a bit fiddley! you can also get whats known as an f coupler, so u could unscrew the cable from yor v+ box, use a coupler then add a piece of cable with "f's"on both ends, but tbh you would be better off with a continuos length from the isolator if possible

Look on ebay for lengths of made up coax cable with the connectors on. I got quoted the same price by Virgin but picked up a 5 metre length for £20.
