Dear All

I have just bid for a pair of new JBL TL260(1500 euros). Has someone heard of them, their sound, capabilities, etc..?

Furthermore is it an issue that they are 'OLD' speakers (production date 2006)? Technological wise, manufacturing etc.

Lastly I am thinking of buying KEF R700? How is JBL TL260 compares to KEF R700....

ANY advice will greatly appreciated....

P.S: I know all opinions here are subjective and you must listen yoursel to ANY product you plan to buy.

I haven't heard the speakers, and from past experience of people asking about JBL speakers on these forums, I don't think many people would have auditioned them, let alone compared them to the KEFs so you may not get an aswer. I don't think JBL speakers have good distribution in the UK, which is where most of the forum members are from.

Thanks ID. Any forums you would recommend for this thread?

JBL speakers are generaly used for sound reinforcement (Public address, Live concerts etc)

Go with Kef, is my advice. True hi fi units.

Cheers

JBL has made some highly respected domestic speakers in its near-70-year history.

i bought brand new jbl l830 a few months ago and find them fantastic..they are a 2005 model, but not much has changed since in the speaker making, though manufacturers will claim otherwise, which is understandable as they have to shift the new models..

just checked the tl's on the net and they look impressive, however if you miss them you can check the jbl studio580 which are rated very highly by whf-5*,i demoed them some months ago with the kandy k2 combo-a monster of a speaker..

Didnt say they hadnt andrew. Given the choice of JBL or Kef, advised Kef. That was all.

JBL make the best Pro speakers on the planet (IMO) But remit dictates reinforcement duties, leave domestic duties to KEF, PMC etc.

I have order and got the JBL LC2 speaker for this 'transition' period until I decide on my HIFI/HC speakers and I can't wait to hear it (after some 'burning' is done).

It would be nice to hear some more comments for JBL Studio580/590 as they are aslo included in my list?

Have you heard KEF R700 to be able to compare with Studio 580

Thanks

So are you suggesting a company can't make good pro speakers and fine domestic ones, too?

Need to get off to work soon:

So may i expand a little please. I work professionaly with:

Peavey

Bss audio

Soundcraft

Adam Hall

Allen and Heath

dbx(Of why shake the house to bits? When you can destroy the foundations? Fame)

JBL

They all satisfy a particular market, all brilliant in what they do! And certainly have no place what so ever in the domestic environment.

All the products mentioned in these forums, are designed for the domestic market, are they not? They do there best there.

Am not saying one brand is better than another, who am i to be so facetious! Just in my opinion certain products are predisposed to a particular market.

JBL speakers are better suited to pro audio situations. But have diversified into the domestic marketplace also, with very fine products i am sure!

Cheers

Well, to be strictly accurate, the company started out making radio speakers, moved into speakers for cinemas when the talkies came along, and only later into home hi-fi speakers, agreed. But given that it did that last diversification in the 1950s, I think it's probably had some time to get it right!

And indeed has produced some remarkable home use speakers in its time, of which the speakers the OP is considering are a particularly good example along with the amazing K2 and the Everest DD6600 (below).

/sites/whathifi.com/files/images/newsarchive5/l_0.jpg

Anyway, I just didn't want the OP to write off the JBLs just because he'd got the mistaken impression that the brand was only really optimised for pro audio, and others should automatically be selected as they specialise in hi-fi.

After all, what does PMC stand for? Now there's a company that started in pro audio and diversified into hi-fi!

O,lder JBL stuff I don't know about.

Contemporary JBL stuff over here is "bargain basement" made in China stuff, e.g. JBL ES80 three-way floorstanders for 200 quid a pair on Amazon.com. There's some kind of hook-up with Harmon-Kardon as well I believe. Maybe JBL's brand is just being used the way Mission's did a decade ago after they parted from Cyrus. And look how that turned out.

Hi, I actually do own these. I have had many years experience as an audiophile, have worked in the industry and I am also the owner and user of a large PA system. The fact that JBL does not have a big following in this country makes no difference to how the TL 260 sounds, of course. I use them with a moon cd player, VPI turntable and McIntosh amp. I love the TL 260. Rich, vibrant, very detailed fairly efficient and work well in an average size UK living room, despite their size. These are highly revealing speakers that will rip to shreds a poor source. Sonically, a tad on the warm side. The Kef references are good, too. Use your ears to decide. If you don't like the JBLs, these are so rare they will be easy to sell on. I may even be interested in buying them myself. These speakers really are that rare, as you can see there is very little objective info on the web about them. I have a feeling that once you have them you will love them.

Wow.. this is really interesting....The only issue I have is that I have read somewhere about synchornisation on the lower end and the issue of having too many drivers (5 in total) to... drive... Have you had any issue in this aspect?

Furthermore 1500 euros are they what they worth?

THANKS
