Upgrade bug infestation again....

Hi all,

Overall, I am very happy with the sound from my current system (in sig), but... am looking at getting into lossless digital music etc. Cant see much point in upgrading the 6SE source as I think CDs are probably on their way out... Am also wondering about the speakers.. so am looking at upgrade options...

The electornics are (obviously) all Cyrus. The addition of the XPower was a fantastic move and really tightened up the bass and improved the soundstage.

I am torn as to the way forward. I want to stay with Cyrus for the electonics. Unfortunately the 8vs2 is not directly upgradeable as the internal electronics changed ++. I can trade it in on an 8XP, but.... should I...

1/ Trade the 8vs2 in on an 8XP and add the higher internal DAC later as budget allows (not possible atm)... or...

2/ Get rid of the 8vs2 and get a DACXP (may well be dreaming budget wise) but then is there enough power from the XPower alone to drive the big speakers? A second XPower or (heaven forbid) MonoXs are out of the question... or....

3/ Leave the electronics and get better speakers. If so, what? I actually auditioned a lot of speakers prior to getting the 683s which although are relatively cheap for the Cyrus sound really good. So would have to be a significant improvement... or...

4/ something else??

Sorry if the post sounds vague.... I think vagueness may be a symptom of the tertiary stage of the upgrade bug infestation!

Any advice much appreciated!

The upgrade bug is a nasty one. I would get new speakers.

Agree with Joel - better speakers. I'd be looking in Spendor's direction.

I would also vote for new speakers. If you want to hear more of what the cyrus kit is capable of try stepping up to the B&W CM7. Often overlooked, but a killer speaker and not hard to drive. Should really sing with your gear.

Sounds like speakers should be the next step.... Hmmm.... I do like the B&W sound so will look at the CM7s as suggested...
