I have been intending to buy a modestly priced Blu-Ray player but will need to run it via the analogue inputs on my Denon AVR-3802. However the models I've looked at so far all all seem to present potential problems.i.e

From the obvious choices:

Pansonic BD80 - Apparently no facility to build in delay to the analgue audio output (unlike my Sky HD Box) hence lip-sync problems with TV picture.Have e mailed Panasonic to see if this is correct but they havent bothered replying.

Sony BDP 550 - Problem with low bass signal output level, although I have since gathered this may be inherent in all players internally decoding the sound for analogue output. Apparently some AV processors have the facility to boost the sub channel but I dont know if mine will do this, and even if it does, wont it then mess up the sound balance when using the other attached seperates i.e Skybox, and Sony RDR HDX 890.

I have even thought of the more expensive Pioneer players but am unsure whether they would still suffer the same problems and I also need to playback discs recorded in DVD+RW which I believe may be incompatible with some Pioneer models.

Any ideas or would it be best to junk my otherwise very serviceable AV procvessor and buy one with HDMI decoding before I venture into the world of Blu-Ray?

I use the multi-channel analogue inputs on my EP35 HDDVD player and I do occasionally get lip sync issues, most notably with one of the Jason Bourne film discs, it's unwatchable, so I use the optical input and SD audio. Other than that, it works fine. I can boost the LFE EXT input by up to 15db. This only affects the analogue input, so does not affect your other sources. Go to the input setup menu on your amp and it should be in there as "Ext. In SW Lev". I have the 3805 so it's not that much newer than yours. I was disappointed to see multi-channel analogue output dropped from most of the latest Pioneer players at the budget level. I'm keeping my eye on the new Oppo BDP83 and the forthcoming Denons too.

The Euro version (Region B) isn't out yet. There have been some Region A machines sold in the UK but they didn't last long. As soon as they're in stock, they fly off the shelves to pre-orders. I don't know when the Region B machine will be officially on sale in the UK but crt will be the place to get it.

In that case, I wouldn't bother buying Panasonic!

I emailed them a year or so ago, and they did eventually reply, with an apology for the delay which was due to a large volume of queries (not sure if that's encouraging or not!).
