Hello to one and all. I purchased my UE46B8000 Samsung about 3 weeks ago. I have it hooked up to a non HD Sky and my PSP 3 using a QED lead. Now, I have played numerous BLU RAY DVD'S through my PSP3 and on all of the BLU RAYS my TV suffers MOTION BLUR mostly in scenes that are very quick.

It stands out like a sore thumb.I have set my TV on SMOOTH which is 200Mhz and the highest setting as it is the best quality picture in my opinion. There is no doubting that the picture is awsome but not happy about the motion blur around peoples head and vehicles. It only happens momentarily but it is very noticable. Does anyone have the same issue. I am sending it back and getting a replacement due to this.

I cant believe for a second it is meant to do it as what would be the point in having that setting if it does not work. Any advise is appreciated.

Leaving aside the TV settings (which I feel being set at max won't necessarily help), i'd point the finger at your PS3. The biggest and best TV sets ruthlessly expose the issues the PlayStation 3 can have with Blu-ray motion-handling - something you may not notice on a smaller, less capable set.

The good news is that even a budget dedicated player - such as Sony's own S360 - offer a smoother experience...

Id have to disagree with Claire. My PS3 plays fast scenes absolutely fine (Although mine is connected through a mains conditioner and decent mains cable which probably make a difference)

have you tried switching the 200Hz OFF on the tv?

I found this off a guy that properly calibrates tvs to test ~

"Unfortunately, no matter how it's configured (Game Mode on or off,
200hz on or off), the UE46B8000 suffers from a common LCD flaw, but one
that I've never seen on a Samsung TV before: problems with black
objects during motion. If the pixels on the LCD panel have to change
from a bright shade to a dark one too quickly, many LCDs produce
visible smearing. The UE46B8000 does not, but instead pixels which were
black in the video frame before will randomly scatter, leaving powdery
black dots on-screen where there was a black object previously.
The
effect is minor, though, in comparison to LCD TVs which feature obvious
smearing blacks."

Is that what your talking about?

The tv also has major input lag (if your into gaming) ~
"In its normal picture mode, the Samsung UE46B8000 lagged badly. Games
were almost unplayable with the default settings; with lag measuring as
108ms - one of the highest numbers I've ever seen. Fortunately, Game
Mode - as usual - was the saviour here, cutting this number down to
"only" 51ms. This is still considerably worse than most other displays
I've tried lately, and I'd be lying if I said games were enjoyable on
this LCD TV even in Game Mode."

Hey, dont get me wrong. The PS3 can obviously be beat by many bluray players. But its certainly not a BAD player.

And as ive stated before, perhaps mines better than normal as its fed with such a clean mains supply (Sound in particular REALLY came alive after fitting a decent mains cable to it)

The PS3 is quite a capable all round entertainment machine. People misunderstand it as a 'games machine' with HD playback. It got 4 star from What Hi Fi didn't it?

Its classified as a supercomputer class in its ability to do XX teraflop calculations.Awesome! Xbox 360 can eat lead outputting HDDVD at 1080i

I use the Ps3 to play fast scenes without using motion wizardary on a Sony TV and never complained.True, the bigger the screen can increase the apparent blur but I woudn't blame the Ps3 in this instant.

Remember that gaming computer graphics can expose a TV's weakness to blur more than any Frank Lampard Freekick.

You may have a dodgy Samsung panel?? LCD panels aren't made same even in the same class model.

Buying a TV is so perilous these days?

standard motion is better more obvious but set back to 3

i personally think ps3 are best suited with sony television sets but its not to bad with this samsung use the hdmi black level to low maybe this will help

To clarify, the PS3 is a superb all-rounder (I have one myself...), but its motion-handling abilities with Blu-ray are one of its weaker points - it's certainly not bad, but a Sony BDP-S360 is noticeably better.

And yes, a PS3 is fine with a 46in set of the Samsung's quality, but in our opinion the TV really does deserve better to be enjoyed at its best with Blu-rays.

But as I said, this is just one aspect of the OP's issue. Set itself needs a good settings tweak - start with everything 'off' and work up is a good shout - before finding fault with either the TV or its source.

theres an american website that give full calibration settings for all the latest tvs they have reviewed , i recently had a samsung 46b650 lcd , and when i applied their settings the tv looked great , and handled motion very well , cant post the name here , even though it would be helpful ?? do a bit of googling and you should find it ...

Have you set your PS3 blu ray player settings? Because most people do not do this. This makes a huge improvement in picture quality when set up correctly.

I am glad I have not considered a 7 or 8 series Samsung if they can't cope with gameplay.Game lag of 50ms or more is a No No.

Looks like a Sony Z series is the best compromise

It has been claimed that the older Sony 4xxx series had NO game lag,The later W5xxx and Z5xx had higher lag. Its shows the Best aren't the Best.

The older models defnitely have lag, but your right in that the newer models have a higher lag

W5500 TV has 17 - 33ms lag in Game mode[motionflow switched off]....a very very good score! Better than a Z5500.

Ps3 and Sony TV are made for each other.

I think Im prefering judder to the nasty effects on 100 and 200 hz...fast action always seems do be in slow motion..doesn't make sence.

ear:I think Im prefering judder to the nasty effects on 100 and 200 hz...I've said similar recently after seeing some 200Hz and 600Hz screens - I can't watch them, they're way too smooth and look unnatural, like video rather than film. I'd prefer a bit of judder too. I'm just glad I don't need a TV.

I can honestly say that the one Samsung I saw a couple of years ago was possibly one of the worst pictures I have ever seen including shocking motion blur as well as making Midsomer Murders look like it had been shot on a mobile phone - yes it really was that poor. I wouldn't go near a Samsung now. No probs with my Panny tho'. Send it back.

yap samsung colours are spot on for me...but blurr...its the brand that blurrs the most

Like a broom for that sweeping generalisation?

Every set from every brand has to be judged on its individual merits - you can see massive differences from one end of a manufacturers' range to another. Samsung is nowhere near the worst offender in our comparative, side-by-side testing of properly set-up TVs....

Agree Sony has nailed motion the best, however. Just a shame it can't sort out those backlight issues, then we'd feel happier recommending them!

Whereas the Samsung LE32B650 is the best 32" telly I've seen. Go figure.

when the settings are adjusted correctly most sets dont look so bad some of these sets these guys most have seen have not been calibrated correctly

Aha ...Thanks Claire

I have been wondering what was causing this on my set-up.

Now I know the PS3 is the culprit.

It also takes about an 8th of a second to post the upscaled image to the TV when playing DvD's

Time to ditch the PS3 and go for an XBOX/BD-360 Combi me thinks.
