Hi, i still cant decide on what tv to get. I would like a 46" really, but what one has the best PICTURE. I dont care about sound and features, i just want a stunning picture on freeview and HD. What are peoples thoughts. I have upto £1600. I know pioneer are the best but i cant afford them, so what model, either plasma or LCD is STUNNING!! Would really appreciate peoples help.

The best picture is the one you most like. If you follow some of the threads you'll see that opinions on what is best varies widely, mostly divided by the Plasma or LCD followers. You just have to go to a few places and look at different models. Try and have them adjusted to neutral with all processing to normal as possible to get a vague idea on how they differ.

I knew what I wanted when I saw it and I'm sure you will too though if you want my answer, a result of 2 or 3 months looking into flat screens, I'd say Samsung on LCD and Panasonic on Plasma though last years Pioneers are around your budget and may well be worth seeking out.

Perhaps also look into projectors. I believe your budget would buy quite a nice model now. I think I will certainly get one but am not sure at the moment if it will be the main viewing option or an add-on for films.

regards

For your budget and with access to HD broadcasts then I would have to recommend the Panasonics, either PZ81 or PZ85. The '81 will give you access to some HD material on Freesat which is limited at present but who knows what will become available within the coming year!

Ok so today i went to comet and currys to look at the 46" TVs to see if anything grabbed me. I can only say every tv had a RUBBISH picture. Every tv had a slight blur to it or fuzz or something. I have a 4 - 5 year old 42" LG plasma and that picture is much better than what i saw in the shops. Why is this? Im worried now. Is it because the shop hasnt bothered tuning it properly? How can i find the perfect tv if i cant see what the picture quality is like due to stupid shop workers. The only good picture i saw was a samsung playing 'Cars' on blue-ray. that was superb. But all the other tvs playing either blue-ray or SD just wasnt worth the money what so ever. Need help!

I'm certain that this would be the shop and not the TVs. Do you have a John Lewis nearby? I've found, whilst they might not have tuned them to home viewing (i.e bright backlights for LCDs etc) the picture feeds are at least of good quality. The pictures are sharp even on freeview signals. They also would probably let you play with the remote to change some of the settings...I certainly have.

Most shops run all their tv's from the same aerial feed hence the terrible picyures you see. Some may have a Sky HD feed which should look a lot better as did the Blu Ray feed you saw.

Ok thanks guys. I will go to John Lewis soon next time im down blue water. Really need to see the Panasonic 46" Plasmas vs the Samsung 46" LCDs to see what i prefer. The decision is killing me! I need to make up my mind.

Im in the same boat.Same budget and looking for the same thing.
I want to use a PS3 on mine also, and have really set my sights on LCD.
After reading all the "Which!" reports I think LCD is best for me.
Im off to view the 46" Sony Bravia 46 W4000 on sat. Hope its all that it looks.

I think on this site it says it doesnt have freeview, but it does 🙂
Anyway tell me how your shopping trip goes.

Steve

I spend to Months looking for the best TV for SD; there are two clear winners in my view; Pioneer and Philips. I went for the Philips 42PFL9603 and am very pleased!

I had same dilemma but went with 50" Panasonic PZ81 from John Lewis with free 5yr warranty and free delivery 🙂
