Trigger input cable

A number of manufacturers provide "trigger input/output" sockets, commonly with a size of 3.5mm. These can be used to turn multiple components on/off at the same time.

What sort of cable is this? A search on Google and Amazon didn't reveal much.

Right. Does it have to be mono or stereo, or not important?

It's usually a mono 3.5mm cable, a stereo one may not work. Something like this:
