Well seeing as I have put the Elicit R on the back burner for a bit, someone put me on to a used Dino Mk2 at a really good price, so gonna try it with the Dynavector 10x5 and see how good it sounds compared to the Brio's on-board effort!

Also picked up a used Rega Couple I/C - does anyone know if the couple is the same as the I/C on the RP6 & RP3?

Cheers

I know where you are coming from, the Brio R phono stage is supposed to be a good one, so it will be interesting to see what difference it makes? At worst if I cant here an uplift I will just move it on without losing anything.

Are you using an on board phono with your Pulse?

Yep - the standard built-in jobbie. It's a good one too, certainly on par with Arcam and Rotel. Like Rega they are known for producing quality phono stages.

My idea to fit a outboard is far down the list of priorities. But depending on your findings it may shift a little further up my 'to do' list.

PP , and if Steve moves on to a low output coil he is sorted for starters.

Steve , erm ,what if you want to move on and venture into low output coil land.

If the Dino dosnt out perform the Regas onboard I will show my a**e on the town hall steps.

You have flexibilty to play around with the capacitance settings , mibbe try the Dyna in the mc settings etc etc.

Mornin PP. Yip I dont think there are too many with that option ,well in the lowish realms of the wallet dept anyways if you get my drift.

I've just had a butchers at how much the Brio was/is new. Dont think Gandy majored all that much on the phono board really do you.

Well the Dino Mk2 to in its normal guise is £400 so I expect it to out-do the Brio phono stage!

Got it for quite a bit less than half price so If its not better then I will move it on but can't see that happening!

Steve if the Dyna turns up today get some miles under its belt to help get shot of new cart rattiness. If the Dino turns up as well then just set it up for high output coil then carry on running in before you start playing with the settings. Otherwise as the cart settles down you wont know if your backside has been drilled or bored.

Had a phone call from Walrus yesterday, he was busy and could not get out of shop to post so asked if it was ok if he could post it today so will get it tomorrow!

I will get it fitted on Saturday when the kids are nowhere to be seen, I don't think I will get the Dino until next week but I am in no rush - so will get the 10x5 run in for a few days.

Certainly worth trying it, as long as it doesn't screw up the family hols. :rockout:

PP, I have not heard it - but I am 100% confident its going to be a step up!

Haven't heard or seen them but there's a nagging memory that says the Dino uses a pastic case and therefore positioning is quite important as it is a bit sensitive to hum. Worth asking your dealer about that, anyway.

Cable dressing can also sort out phono hum in many cases. However , I used to run a Dino two boxer a few yrs ago and had no problems at all. Actually I've never had any hum problems with any phono I have used at all.

Doubt if the plastic case has owt to do with it tbh.

Morning all. You are quite right floyd droid, the acrylic case should have a beneficial effect over all compared to a metal one. This is why the likes of Tom Evans and Trichord utilise them. Never had any problems (hum) with my Dino when I had one either.

This will enable the use of that aforementioned Denon 103R also.:)

Right, that was my six pennies worth. I'm off to Abergavenny to get a couple of LPs cleaned.

If this carries on any more in this vein Steve will have it up on ebay unopened, lol.

And could you please mind yer language :p

Not so. Never said it was gospel, just a vague memory worth checking that's all. Don't think you know more than humble dish washers :)
