just to say guys that i'm wincing at all of your choices. without being rude you all need to get out more. if your saying your top 5 blu ray or dvd films then really you mean your best five films ever.

ac/dc, rush, hellboy 2, amy winehouse, star trek, spiderman to name a few. something tells me you all need to watch more films, that is unless your all ten years old, then my apologies. i will give you LOTR

Too many to allow me to list only 5, so in breach of your criteria, my choices would be:

1. Sopranos Complete Series

2. West Wing Complete Series

3. The Wire Complete Series

4. Dances with Wolves

5. 12 Angry Men

6. Godfather Trilogy

7.Gladiator

8. LA Confidential

9. Dollars trilogy

10. Shawshank Redemption

All of these are dvds. The reason I haven't included any blu rays is because, whilst all good films, most of my blu ray collection is made up of action/ comic book films which showcase the format, rather than being my favourite films. On a different day, my selection might vary.

It could become a very, very long list, if Heat, Pulp Fiction, scarface, one flew over a cuckoo's nest, to kill a mockingbird, rocky, true romance, the untouchables, dirty harry etc and many others were included

Actually, one advantage over getting the Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas and Dances with Wolves (except for the reduced running time) on blu ray, would be not having to flip the disc half-way through. It's a mild inconvenience!

You could be on the sofa, post dinner, when you have to get up to flip the goodfellas disc.

maxflinn:afaik the alien movies are not great on bluray ..

If that's the case, it's very disappointing! I've held off buying it on dvd (£12.98 on amazon) in the hope that the blu ray would come out soon, but if it's not going to be very good, I may as well pick it up cheaply online on dvd.

Where did you hear that it wasn't going to be good? They're taking their time releasing it, and I was hoping it would look amazing.

a friend of mine downloaded them from some torrent site , he said the quality wasnt very good for hd , but to be fair , downloads are not always the best , and if they release a special quadrilogy boxset on bluray maybe that will be good , hopefully , i would watch , 1 and 2 , as for 3 and 4 ?? not for me ..
