'ow do. Being a no-compromise kinda person, I have upgraded both my home cinema and stereo music kit over the last 5 years, to the point that I now have 8 speakers in my 12' x 13' living room. Being not rich enough to afford a house with 2 living rooms (well not quite), this is now beginning to get a bit cluttered. My question to forum members/staffers is: has anybody downgraded a full separates HC system to either 1. something like Sony's DAV mini-system or 2. a sound bar or 3. a 2.1 system (probably using my stereo amp plus B&W CM1 standmounts and my beloved REL sub. If so, did you miss your full surround kit or find the other solutions acceptable?

oh...forgot to expand - I have a stereo music system (DAB, CD, Minidisc, MP3) and a full HC system (Plasma, HD-DVD, PVR). Cheers

I've got a Yamaha DSP 1100 for movies.it is hooked up to my Quad L sub and sounds fantastic.I've had guests that think that a lot of the sound is coming from my Leema standmounts and even had a couple who were looking around the room to see where the sound is coming from.

my lounge is about 35' by 15' with 16' ceilings and the DSP is plenty big enough.I like to spend my available cash on 1 very well made product rather than divide the money on several lower quality items.

the system I have means that the room looks nice and is obviously a music lovers room with a nice tv .

the sub is switchable to be used with the hi-fi as well.

I would suggest a demo of the DSP.

best of luck.
