To upgrade or not to upgrade?

I have a Pioneer PDP4280XD plasma, and will shortly be adding a 5.1 home cinema system consisting of Yamaha amp and Cambridge Audio Minx speakers. My current bluray player is the Panasonic DMP BD30, 5* rated at the time of release but now several years old. My question is whether upgrading the Bluray player to a newer version (say the Panasonic DMP BDT220, last year's award winner) will be a significant improvement, either in terms of picture or sound?

Any tips gratefully received. Thanks.

My personal experience suggests that while you will notice a significant upgrade in loading times, picture improvement is debatable. I have not noticed improvements on blu ray picture quality. DVD upscaling may be improved. Demo before you purchase.

Thanks both for your input. To my eyes, picture quality from my current player looks very good anyway, and I had overlooked the fact that it is the AV receiver that will decode the sound so the player is irrelevant to audio quality. I will therefore stick with what I have, until the player gives up the ghost!
