picking up a pair of monitor audio bronze br5 floorstanders tmw , and a yamaha rxv 765 amp ... the rest of my system will follow when i get the money ... would biwiring these be better than just a normal connection ?? thanx..

potboyslim:Bi amping would give a better result.

Absolutely................see my previous threads on this, bi-amping is the way!

You are in for a double run of pairs of cable to each speaker, (as you would for bi-wiring) just disable the rear surrounds in the menu and instruct the amp as required, you won't regret it.

thanks f and d , bi amping it is then , ill tell the guy in munstersounds that , make sure he throws in enough cable for it ..

are those threads you mentioned in this section or hifi ?? ill have a gander , cheers ..

maxflinn:thanks guys , whats bi amping ??

Effectively means one dedicated output from the amp will drive the low frequency of each speaker and one will drive the higher frequency via the outputs selected below

Remove the link on the speaker as if you were going to bi-wire, run a pair of speaker cables from say Front Left and connect to either of the pair of terminals of the speaker, take another pair of speaker cable from the Surround Rears Left (must be the rears) and cable to the other pair on the same speaker

Carry out the same process for the Front Rights

Disable Rear Surrounds on the amp menu, instruct Amp to bi amp output, job done!

thanks , ill have a go tmw afternoon , why is this beneficial ??

Biwiring wopuld use the same output to drive both lower and upper frequencies, bi-amping uses two different outputs (amplification) to drive each of the upper and lower frequencies. This should result in purer amplification to both upper and lower as they are not sharing the same amplified output as biwiring

By removing the speaker links you are also not relying on the internal crossover of the speaker to manage the whole frequency register of a single speaker cable connection, thus removing internal comprimises of the speaker

So max, are you heading over to Munstersounds tomorrow? What are going to demo?

tbh i got lost in all the choping and changing over the last week

lol..

anyway , yea im heading down tmw to buy the affore mentioned br5s and yamaha , i may demo a few 1st , but im defo getting the speakers e450 is a steal , great looks and great reviews ..

the onkyo 607 was my first choice of amp , but ive kinda concluded , (well , me and half the forum) that the yam would be better suited to the br5s , e750 for the onk and speakers ... e800 with the yamaha .. great prices..

i was looking at a pair of wharfedales on adverts.ie , i can still get them for e385 .. have you seen them torres ?? i know thats a stomping ground of yours , ive seen you there 🙂 what would you do if you were me ??

I'd stick to the plan, defo get the BR5 and the Yamaha, i had a Yamaha AX757 before i got my Onkyo's and really rate them...

Yep always looking on adverts for bargains, seen them Wharfedales, been there a while, think the MA are better........

yes the wharfedales seem flawed according to reviews .. you were right about the guy in munstersounds , jack , sounded aussie , very helpful , ive spoke to him at length and he seemed genuine , ill go back to him for the other bits and bobs as and when ..

looking forward to listening to a bit of music as much as the movie sound , the yamaha is said to be musical so thats good , roll on tmw , ** the recession , the bills can wait

talk to ya...

I spoke to my local dealer reference this as I thought this would be a cost friendly upgrade. He said it was not worth it as it would colour the sound (more resistance owing to more cables) and this was used mainly a decade ago when some cables were not as good as they are now. He said bi-amping is the way to notice any difference in a good setup and I guess that is why Active speakers are so popular because they follow this principle.

So max, how did you go with bi-amping? How noticable was the improvement. I am going down this path myself when the receiver arrives anyday now. Curious as to what speaker cable you're using.
