I'm looking at replacing my ageing Sony STVR 555ES av receiver. it has served me well, but now it's time for a change.

I'll be changing to blu ray dvd as well. My speaker package is as old as the receiver ( AE Evos) including a centre rear speaker, would it be advisable to change those as well? I have a budget of £1000 for the receiver and dvd and could find extra to replace the speakers if people think this would be the better option.

The system was mainly used for movies but I did like the receiver for its stereo capabilities.

Any advice would be welcomed!

well im only a home cinema novice , but id look at the yamaha rxv1065 av receiver , £450 at richer sounds , it was £800 at launch , and is a 5 star winner ..

you could also look at my speaker setup , monitor audio br5 floorstanders as fronts , a bronze centre , and br1 rears , brw10 sub , all in should be around £1100 , very good setup , quite powerful , and the br5s are great for stereo music
