Thought I had made my mind up, but......

Had made my mind up for a 32LXD700, which I know now is end of line. Reason for this was the review sounded great and also the sound system was high quality.

I was also attempting to get a 5 year warranty (with JLewis), hopefully with a price match and the best I could get was £799.

But, now with the new '08 model line up I am having second thoughts and was thinking of including the 32LZD80 or 32LZD85. I can obviously get this in store somewhere and get the free 5 year warranty as is on offer.

However, I am understanding, if correct, that the sound system on these is inferior to the 700.

Can anyone let me know how much inferior ? I am not particularly bothered about the full HD capability on a 32"

Thanks.

I have the 32LXD700 and think that it is a very good sounding set. This is obviously within the realms of flat screen sets and will not match playing through a decent HiFi or AV system.

IMO there are two reasons for the good sound, separate woofers and SRS tru surround. I also have a 26LXD70 which does not have separate woofers or tru surround, similar to the new LZD80 and LZD85. If I listen to both of the sets in a direct comparison then yes the LXD700 sounds slightly weightier than the LXD70 (and I assume the LZD80and 85). However the sound of the LXD70 in isolation sounds well sorted, lacking some of the weight of the LXD700 but the mid and high ranges are well sorted and integrated without any harshness or IMO, the worst problems on flat screen sound, sibilence, harshness and cabinet vibration at decent volume.

I have also just bought a 42PZ85 plasma (I have picture quality issues - another thread) but am reasonably impressed with the sound. I put this down to the BBE HD3D sound system (reasonable sounding surround effects) which I believe is also on the LZ85. If I listen to the sound on this I don't find myself picking out faults and therefore must be content with it.

£799 is far too much to pay for the out going LXD700, mine cost £768 almost a year ago.

If I were choosing between the two I would go for the 32LZ85 as it is slightly more future proof, sounds quite good, comes with a panasonic 5 year warranty (if purchased in store at a panasonic dealer eg sound and vision) but in particular, has 24fps support. I do notice blu ray judder quite a lot on the LXD700.

However, if the cost differential is vast then you won't be disappointed with the 700.

Thanks again cooney, helps further.

My conclusion to this is, listen to the new and see if I am happy with the sound.....buy if I am.
