... but Im hoping to buy a new TV, blu ray player and home cinema from scratch and had decided on the Sony KDL-40W4500 TV, Sony DAV-IS10 home cinema and Sony Blu Ray BDP-S550. After reading on this forum of people experiencing clouding problems with the TV, its thrown me into confusion about what to get.

Im just wondering if it makes any difference in mixing brands... say a Sony TV with a Panasonic Blu Ray player and a Pioneer home cinema. Or for the perfect system, is it best to make sure that all three items are of the same brand?

No problems mixing components.
Remember that people who are not satisfied with their purchases are more likely to post on forums complaining than people who are satisfied with their purchase. If you were dead keen on the Sony, I'd get one and see what you think - you can always return it. Every set has its niggles.

Why the DAVis 10 ? The DAVis 50 is the same but newer system and has 'wireless' rears as well. I saw it at Sony shop for 299 and its the same on Amazon.

Thanks - Ill take a look. Im just going from what was in the copy of S**ff that I bought recently...

The Sony DAV-IS10 was in at number 3...

How do I know which surround sytem is best for a certain TV?

For example, does the Pansonic TH46 PZ81B best support surround sound of 6:1? or can I buy any surround system and plug it in and it will work fine.

Im hoping that this will be the last silly question.

Cheers

generally - sound and visual are two separate entities. Match your amp and speakers well and buy the best screen you can afford. I have a 40w4500 manufactured in September 2008 (when the faulty screens were all manufactured) and it's ace, by the way.
