I can't believe for the against comments you have uninspiring styling! It is the best looking TV this year by a long shot too. It is definitely better than the horrible grey designs and stupid stands you see on most TVs! Thank god Panasonic have finally producing quality looking TVs.

The thing I didn't get about this review was that the touchpen was an 'against' and was described as 'nonsensical', whereas in the 55VT65 review WHF said 'This type of feature would normally be sent to the gimmick pile, but we have to admit – it does work really well. The Touch Pen flows really smoothly, and is surprisingly responsive to handwritten text and scribbles. The sheer fact that it works so well makes it rather fun to use.' Where's the consistency WHF??

The comment 'uninspiring' is so out of touch with the AV world it is scary!

I think it's a personal choice to like the design / styling or not. The reviewers didn't like the design, in the face of VT65 or Samsung / LG models. Even Trusted reviews have commented the design as "so so" in the negatives.

Who is bothered about the design if the picture quality is glorious? ;)

I think you will find the design is an important part of the purchase process. Who wants an ugly looking TV like the Samsung or LG? The design is based on the classic Pioneer designs, and is long and overdue. It is to be commended  not ridiculed!

That's exactly my point. It's a personal choice to like the design / styling. What's stylish to me may not be for you.

Yes, design is an important part of the purchase process. Also, Samsung and LG are the world's largest selling TVs. So a majority of buyers are finding them stylish while you find them ugly. :)

It's not looking good for the GT60, it's now on the third page (last page) of pricerunner & only a handfull of retailers selling it.

RGB have just lowered their price:

http://www.rgbdirect.co.uk/Products/Television/3D-Plasma-TV/Panasonic/TXP50GT60B

Cheaper here at £1249:

http://www.directtvs.co.uk/Panasonic_TX-P50GT60B_50_Inch_Smart_3D_Plasma_TV_TX-P50GT60B/version.asp

Just to be clear I was not highlighting cheap prices, otherwise I would have linked to Total Digital.

Well, the number of people in the home cinema forums buying the Panasonic TVs compared to the other TVs doesn't measure up to that stat.

And the people who do buy LG and Samsung is because they are cheaper not because they are better.

Only a minuscule of TV buyers frequent the home cinema forums. A couple of my friends bought a Samsung despite my strong recommendation for a Panasonic because they were slimmer with a narrower bezel.

Panasonic doesn't feature in this list at all:

Where do you think a Pioneer would feature on that list then, BB?

And like I said most people buy the other brands because they are cheaper not through choice. Sure you will get the odd one or two.

At the time when Pioneer was being sold, some of my friends preferred the slimmer Samsungs. I love the Pioneer design, but I realise I was in a minority.

Panasonic doesn't feature in top 25 in-house design at all, Samsung, Sony & LG dominate the list.

You are not in the minority of the AV world though BB. If Pioneers were being sold today for £3000 for a 50 inch, they would basically be the same design, and everybody on here would want one, because a) they would have the best picture and b) they would be considered the best looking.

That is where my gripe is, because it is a home cinema/hi fi mag and yet it failed to recognise a classic design, that would greatly appeal to the AV world.

AV forum reviews are mostly read by AV affectionados who do a lot of research prior to purchase. They loved the design. What Hi Fi is read by a wider consumer base, which may be the reason.

I do note, however that GT60 is similar in design to the GT50, & What Hi Fi loved the GT50 design, and have listed it as a positive. The goal posts seem to have changed in 12 months, presumably because other models are significantly more stylish.

So you think when WHF write they are trying to appeal to the greater audience? Personally I think they should be trying to appeal to their fanbase - us!

And given the 'hideous' competition, I would like to know what the comment was based on?

To jump to another thread it did have a touch of Stuff mag about it!

I don't know to be honest. It may be that the team that reviewed the GT50 were different to the GT60 reviewers. Design and style is a personal preference & subjective opinion. I don't think WHF ever tried to appeal to their fanbase, otherwise I would've expected the Oppo to get 5 stars. I've never seen WHF bow to popular choice.
