1. Topic idea: Is more expensive gear worth it? Compare £1000 amp / £1000 CDP to £3000 amp / £3000 CDP.

2. I'd like to see you switch up the direction of the changes. Instead of slowly adding improvements, start with the most expensive configuration, and then slowly remove them.

Thanks,

-Jax

When I went in, we had no idea what was being changed as it was all behind where we were sitting.

When I went in, we had no idea what was being changed as it was all behind where we were sitting.Which is of course how it should be

But it seems to me that they always move towards improvements. Readers know this now. I think human nature might lead one to hear improvements after a change regardless of the change. So by degrading the system on each step rather than improving it seems like a better test.

No we don't always move towards improvement - that's how we write the features up for clarity. It'd be an overlong, confusing read if we put in every change and re-ordering....

So by degrading the system on each step rather than improving it seems like a better test. True, but you have given away the plot. A random method of deciding the original system and how it is updated for every step would be safest.

Why can't some people just accept that testing is done as fairly as possible!

You'll be delighted to hear this is the thrust of April's The Big Question.

The April issue that i'm delighted to say arrived in our offices just now (well, early copies anyhow). Royal Mail's finest permitting, subscribers should have their copies from Friday, with the issue being on sale in shops by Wednesday 10th March.

When we were there the system was to the side, but the same principle applied. The great thing about blind-testing is you never know what the combination is, or price structure is until after each individual test is completed.
