it seems to me i'm doomed to go on with the nad sound, since it suits my ears best (for its price range) , so to build some new (certainly cheap) system around a nad compo (btw what's your opinion about this year's 515bee cd?) i was thinking of the subject's two different speakers. i've auditioned the latter , i loved its sound, if only it had a LLLLitle more bass, do not want to have booming, juuuust a little more bass. havent had the chance to listen to mercury f1, though... (and i see it gets nice reviews, it's CHEAP especially when you buy from e-bay, but i'll be based on your suggestions, which i trust...)

so, what's the difference (from your experience) in sound between the two different makes and particular speakers ?

moreover, would you suggest some third make and model to match a level-entry (yet intending to cover hours+hours of old rock, blues and mainly jazz+classical music) nad (amp+cd) system .

would it be wise to match my nad amp with the 515 or some other nad cd, instead of the new marantz i was intending to buy?

thanks a lot.

ÿÿI would suggest Wharfedale Diamondÿ9.1 or 9.2, or Tannoy Fusion 2, they are bigger than Epos or Tannoy F 1 , with deeper Bass. I had Nad 515BEE cd player, is very good for classical music, not at all harsh, but not very reliable

I had some brand new els3 speakers and wasn't impressed at all when hooked up to a Linn Classik. Lacking in many areas. Sold them after 2 months.ÿ

I think Joel is right there. If you want my opinion on the best current sub £300 speakers ... they've been around for about 10 years.

Mordaunt Short MS10i or 20i Pearl. Epos knowhow/engineering. Stunning sounding standmounts. MS never made another budget speaker that came even close.

Oh ... did I mention you can get them for between a tenner and fifty quid or so depending on condition. No brainer. Had the pleasure of hearing the smaller 10i's next to PMC DB1i, plinius amplifier and player, we simply were gobsmacked and not because of the PMC's although they are very good small speakers too.

EvilWolf:Monitor Audio BR2's - Best in Class.

can you compare ma br2's sound to those of the other two on subject ? always bear in mind, nad's amp sound

one more pair to compete here would be Usher S-520. what do you think of this little usher's sound?

totaly agree, had loads of standmounts over the years including the els3's and lots of other epos es speakers. I would have to agree that pound for pound the ms10i are king! they are a HiFI bargain.

in fact i would say that these ms10i sound more like the orignal epos es11/ es12 than the epos els3, they are like mini epos's, some of that magic is lost with the els i found.

the benifit of the els is, if you need a better looking and smaller speaker it is better in that department, i didnt keep mine for long to really get the best out of them, but after a few weeks I just thought they are not keepers. the downfall of the mordaunt short ms series is they do look a bit old and dated now, i think their looks have always been the ms week point.

however I dont own a set now, so they cant be that good, but for the money second had vs a 100-200 pound pair of stand mounts, I have to agree a no brainer!
