Hi,

Can anyone shed any light on Tannoy J30 speakers please? I have a chance of a pair at £60 (described as mint) and cannot find a review or such online.

They are from the 'Series 90' from the late 80's.

They replaced the Jupiter S in the Planet series ( with the Mercury, Eclipse etc)

They have an 8" Mid bass driver and an 8" ABR, with an aluminium dome tweeter.

Recommended amplifier power: 10-110W Sensitivity: 90dB Nominal impedance: 8 Ohm Frequency response: 40 - 20.000Hz Crossover frequency: 3kHz Dimensions: (WxHxD): 260 x 716 x 253mm Build: from 1988 until 1991

Many thanks for this. I'm after a 'full sound' in a rather bright room to match a Cambridge A1...any opinion as to their suitability?

No idea, not actually heard the J30's, I would imagine they do quite well in the bass department, going on the Jupiter S that I grew up with, and they were super smooth in the treble, if a bit veiled.

Only heard the DC1000 in the Series 90, which had good detail but never bright. Owned the Mercury S for a while too and they were a little on the light side bass wise but similar to the Jupiter S in the treble.

I cant imagine you would loose on them if you wanted to sell them on afterwards @ £60.

I see your logic...indeed, I took a chance on a pair of Revolver 250's at £40 (after an intial cursory listen confirmed they were in good working order). Alas, in my set up and listening room (bright and stark) they gave a thin and 'bassless' sound, so will be sold on (hopefully).

I think at £60 I'll take the gamble!
