Hi WHF Team,

Just really qick and simple question. While testing Tannoy Revolution Signature HC set-up which model did you test? I think you tested Series 4 set-up. Did you test series 6 as well. Is it as good as the smaller brother? The series 4 looks really really small compared for example to B&W 684 set-up and my room is quite big so would preffer Tannoys as I (and wife of course) love the design.

Thanks for help.

Tannoy have just increased their prices, so take into account. At £2,500, and almost £3,200, there are plenty of alternatives. There's the ATC Concept 3 - not quite in the same league as the Tannoys for looks, but will walk all over them as far as accuracy is concened, you could even look at a B&W CM7 package rather than the 600 packages. There's the Monitor audio RX8 package, and if you want to go all out n movies, the MK 750 package. All will suit larger rooms.

All very different packages, it just depends on your priorities, and which amplifier you're using.

I recently auditioned the DC6T's and I agree they do look great ...but I would also recommend the B&W CM series instead, the CMC 2 is a fantastic sounding centre, I heard it with the CM9 fronts and was really impressed (I was offered 20% discount if bought with a RRP priced AV Receiver, but went for PMC instead)

how do the new Tannoy Revolution speakers compare with the old range ?

I have R3s and a RC - and I think they sound good - a bit dull sounding, and have been looking to possibly upgrade.

but the new Revolutions (from photos anyway - so could be misleading) don't look as well built as the old ones ? how do they compare sound wise though ?

Hmm.... Can't see any replies from What HIFI team...... Hello... Please........ any comments..

I have found 3 links on your website and I am even more confused....While testing DC4's you mentioned that you did HomeCinema set up with DC6T + DC4. Is that ocrrect...? Is there big diference in going for DC6T + DC6 vs. DC6T+ DC4's?

Thanks.

Thanks to Stone28 for bumping this thread up...

The Revolutions are built in China, don't know if this is new. The Revolution Signatures are still built in Coatbridge, Scotland, and are mighty sturdy...the Rev Sig DC4LCR in particular being built like a railway sleeper

Is it possible that the whole What HI-Fi Team has day off!!!!?

Clare is on holiday this week, and I don't know what the set-up was. Hopefully one of the reviewers will chime in with an answer

I'm (almost) always here...

And AFAICS we've only tested the '4' series package - we haven't done the '6' system yet.

"The DC6T floorstanders scored a vigorous five stars in a past test and
later than that a 5.1 package featuring both the DC6Ts and these
standmounters achieved top marks in similarly exuberant fashion."

That's what caused my question...... The text is from your test of Tannoy's DC4's....

So maybe there were two test: Full 4 series set-up and 6 series fronts/central + DC4 at the back.... Hmm....

There are at least a couple of Tannoy dealers who frequent this forum...perhaps they could add any sage advice of theirs?

Remember you can mix and match...Rev Sig DCT6s at the front, DC4s at the back. The sound will still be a good fit. The Rev Sig DC4s are punchy little things with bags of detail. Love them to bits. Or one bit really, they're also an absolutely solid chunk of wood.

I also didn't particularly like the Tannoy sub at the time, and some of their new ones out don't get such brilliant reviews as the rest of the speakers. For me, a lot was to do with it being down firing and me worrying about my downstairs neighbour. Whether it actually makes any difference if it's down or front firing is debatable, but I felt bad about it so looked for an alternative. You might want to look at a sub as a separate venture. There are a couple of Rev Sig owners here who use Sunfire or Velodyne subs. Mine is a Velodyne MicroVee

Thanks Acciesboy, and I have to say I am in the same situation. I will be buying 5.0 Tannoy and separate sub - not sure yet which one.

Clare or one of the reviewers in the area??? I think Clare is still on hols so maybe somebody else who was involved in the testing....

Sorry but you have to admit that your "I think" doesn't sound really convincing and as you probably tested the 6+4 series set-up but didn't published the review (as you think is the case) I am still wating for some thoughts from somebody who was involved.

Thanks for your kind words. I didn't say we tested the package, only that we had heard it. And to date none of the review team has much to add...

As you can see from my signature I have the DC6 fronts and centre. Personally I love my speaker set-up. I did consider the DC4's but went for the larger more powerful, but still very good looking DC6's. I wanted good looking wall mounted rears and decided to go for the tannoy arena highline 500's in lieu of the Dc6's or even Dc4's (although either would work fine as rears), The general consensus seems to be to avoid the Tannoy sub. I did consider a REL sub but while i don't doubt its sonic abilities it looks a bit too much like a table for me. I went for the sunfire hrs-12 sub which is not only beautiful and very small but also very powerful.

Hi Barnsleydave,

How big is your room? And do you know anything about SVS SB12 PLUS?

Which one od these two subs is better Sunfire HRS-12 or SVS SB12 Plus? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hi Stone. I have just posted a couple of pics on the my system topic. But to answer your question my room is 23' long and 12 ' wide (with a b****y great stone fireplace in the middle along one wall).

I'm sorry but I don't know anything about the SVS SB12 I'm afraid. I just did a very quick google and it looks quite similar to the sunfire sub. Both are small attractive units. Both have 12" woofers. I think the sunfire hrs-12 is a 1000w sub and the SVS is 425w, but the SVS does appear to be cheaper. Sunfire also do HRS-10 and HRS-8, which are cheaper, smaller but less powerful (10" & 8" woofers respectively).

I had the sunfire recommended to me as a great match with the Tannoys (and it is). But the SVS may be just as good. Sorry I can't give you a definite answer.

Saw your pics.... Nice.....

How much was your sub? Not sure if I can afford it as I found many strange prices on the net. But it looks REALLY NICE. And It would much the rest of my Pioneer stuff......

Nice pics, and that is a whopping fireplace alright!

Stone 28, depending on your room size, consider the Velodyne MicroVee (like mine!) The Sunfire will go slightly lower, but the MicroVee is even smaller (9" cube rather than 13" cube) and is also 1,000 Watts RMS (2,000 Watts Dynamic Power whatever that means!), so packs a bit of a punch. I also think it looks pretty cool and it fits in seemlessly with the Tannoys. I got mine for £600 including a 3m Chord Cobra 3 cable, so probably slightly cheaper than the Sunfire. Diminutive size was a plus point for me, I couldn't really fit in anything that much bigger, but if you have the room there are plenty more options.
