I'm hoping to buy a compact speaker system to support my Panny Bluray player and Sky HD... the problem is that due to the shape of the room and the position of the TV (it's in the corner and my sofa does not directly face it) I'm not sure that I can support rear speakers.
My question is should i go for a full speaker system or are there any decent 2.1 systems which could do a decent job of delivering 'surround sound' without the need for rear speakers. I would rearrange the room.... but the wife would not be happy!
Cheers.

Hi,

a 2.1 speaker system wouldn't give you any sort of surround sound as it's just stereo speakers plus a subwoofer. If you've no choice in the matter (ie the wife says no!) maybe roadtest a sound bar. Yamaha do a few and I think another company does as well, although not cheaply. This is placed underneath your tv and has multiple speaker drivers facing different angles to give you a sort of psuedo surround. I've not tried these things myself, but I've heard they're not too bad.

That's about it I'm afraid, so I guess it's grovelling time (flowers and a foot massage works for me!)
