After some advice as I can't seem to make headway on what I need...

Essentially I want to keep my music separate from my tv sound but am not sure of the best way. A variety of reasons for keeping them separate but mainly the layout of the room means music sounds better coming from one end down the room, but the TV etc are in an opposite corner.

Currently I have:

XBox360, Humax 9200T Freeview PVR, Sony CRT TV.

Marantz PM6010ose AMP, Sonos ZP80, Orb Audio Mod2 speakers.

Musically I like the sound but really it needs the addition of a Sub. I use 4* Orb Mod1s with a Mordaunt-Short MSW20 Sub (+ Sonos ZP100) in the kitchen and it suits me (and the Orbs suit my wife, importantly).

I would like to upgrade to 2.1 sound from the TV and use the same sub for the Orb Mod2s. The difficulty is how I best go about it. At some point I will undoubtedly upgrade to a HD TV but its not a priority. We mainly watch Freeview and play the XBox. Very little DVD/Home cinema use is likely. The sub is really to add to the Orb2s, but I figured I may as well use it to upgrade the TV sound as well.

I thought therefore my best bet was to add a cheap used AV amp, use my old Mission 700 bookshelf speakers and get a musical sub new/used and run both amps to it (eg BK Gemini/XLS200/MS309). However I wonder if I would be better off replacing the Marantz with an AV amp and use it for both music and moves. In that case is that possible , using 1 amp to run 2 separate groups of speakers for different purposes (not simultaneously obviously) ? And in general the Orbs sound better at a cut off of 100-120Hz so I'd either run them straight from an AV amp and set the crossover that high, or use a high level connect from the Marantz amp to the sub, then run the Orbs from the sub. Can these subs (?any subs) automatically detect which input is operating and hence whether to output to the Orbs (high level input) or not (low level) ?

At the moment I run the Xbox360, PVR and Sonos through the Marantz but it is a hassle having to go to the amp and physically rotate the input selector when I chnage use, and I'd prefer a set up which could do that automatically, or via remote. Otherwise I guess keeping the music and TV systems separate may be best? (just sharing the sub).

As an aside I was given an Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 system which would be fine for the TV side of things in terms of sound quality (a real step up from the TV speakers...) but I'm still left with the input selecting and problems of awkward volume levels when switching from one input to another.

Sorry (very sorry) for the long winded, confused post, but that's why I'm asking for help. Any help. And if an AV amp is to be recommended, which ones?

Oh and I'd prefer to spend around £300-£400 mark on a sub plus AV amp. If thats unrealistic I'll have to rethink but I don't mind getting 10y old kit if that would do what I need.

Thanks in advance.
