Evening

I am going to buy 2 x speakers & maybe a sub, to sit on tall stands, at each end of my turntables & mixers. I already own 2 x ATC 11s, but they're either side of the TV, and so aren't placed correctly for spinning records the other end of the room.

Been looking at something like 2 x Presnous S8 + T10 sub or the considerably more expensive, 2 x Event Opals. I'd like something with a bit of grunt on the occasional weekend jam ((25m2 living room) (someone on GearSlutz suggested a PA system would better suit my requirements?!)).

Unfortunately, it's unlikely I'll be able to listen before purchase, living where I live.

Cheers in advance for any advice. Max

It entirely depends on the sound pressure levels that you want to generate with this set up.

The Presonus Eris 8 are pretty potent speakers, with or without a sub, and sould be adequate given the modest room size. Provided they are mounted at around shoulder height, so they are not just driving at a mass of bodies, they should handle most situations.

That said, the power requirements in such situations are often much higher than you think, so if you want a bit in reserve or the capability to play in slightly larger spaces, you might want something with a bit more output.

Without spending an absolute fortune, my 'party speakers' of choice are the Mackie HR824-11, at around £1100 pair here in the UK. Substantially more powerful than the Eris 8 and rather more civilised than any PA type setup.

Thanks. I presume that if I can afford the Event Opals they'll be suitable for my requirements, they won't be moved into bigger spaces, they'll be staying put in the living room. What do you think?

Cheers

Are fantastic speakers in all respects, they are however not cheap and it is arguable that the quality levels that you are paying for would be wasted in such an application.

It depends on you and what you are comfortable spending, you have three good options here, Eris 8 (or Yamaha HS8) around £500, HR824-11 at just over £1k and Opals at £2k.

Ideally you should try them to see which gives the best value for you application, but I understand this is difficult. They are all great value at their respective price points.

On the cheap end I'd buy the JBL LSR308. But if you can afford it, the Event Opals should be excellent.

All that said, you really need to audition for yourself, especially if you want to go with the more expensive options like the Opal.
