Hi All.

I've been streaming some great radio stations via itunes to a Airport
Express/hifi in my kitchen and there are quite a lot of times when the
sound simply cuts out for a few seconds. The Airport Express is about
15metres and 4 brick walls away from my NETGEAR Super G router. I live in the annex of a big house! If I move the router to a room in the middle of the house 7 metres to the Airport Express it works better. Thing is this was just an experiment but the router has to stay permanently at the other end of the house in the computer room.

Is the distance and obstacles between AE and the router the cause of the problem? If so what can I do if the router has to stay where it is.Would a NETGEAR RangeMax router work better of maybe I could add a repeater. Or both.

Anyone who's experienced this how did you solve it? Anyone else got recommendations or suggestions?

Any idea on specific kit would be great. My PC is windows O/S.

Best regards, Andrew

I live in a terrace so had trouble with blank spots as well. Cheapest and most effective option for me was installing this...

You need to make sure that your router is able to have the aerial changed but mine is one of the Netgear ones from Sky and it allowed me too. Made a huge difference to my signal strength after moving it around and finding the best angle and it is considerably cheaper than a repeater/new router.

Only major advice is use the compatability chart to make sure it will work for you.

Good luck,

Ben.

Maybe upgrade to a 802.11n draft compliant router assuming the airport express is the n version.I live in a house with block built walls and the router is upstairs but get a pretty good signal all over the house.Router is Netgear DGN2000 around £65
