Hi,
I will soon be getting the Cyrus 8 XPd amp for my hi-fi setup.
If I get a DVD player and a Freeview Tuner with an optical output (such as Humax F2-FOX-T)... will these work well with the onboard DAC for good stereo sound?

Thanks

Hi, I tried watching a DVD last night and could not get it to use the Cyrus 8 XPd's DAC.
I tested a couple of different DVD using the Optical Out on the XBOX 360 and the Coax Out on the DVD player. None had any success - even when I go into DVD options and select Stereo. The Cyrus screen simply reads "Invalid Format" 🙁

Is there anything I can do about this???

When playing music through the XBOX it works fine and the cables are both tried and tested.

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the reply.
Can anyone elaborate on this?

I have spent some time fiddling with the settings and no matter what I try it still wont work.
On the main Xbox menu there is Digital Output Settings. This contains two options:

Digital Stereo
Dolby Digital 5.1

Obviously I have selected Digital Stereo.

This works fine for playing music through the console but not DVDs.
When playing a DVD on the Xbox or standard DVD player I have went through all the audio options I can find but nothing seems to work! I still get the "invalid format" error.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Do you have the Xbox connected to the internet? If so, have you applied the latest updates to it? I've seen a couple of posts from other users with the same issue with no resolution unfortunately, but one mentioned a possible update back in February 2009 to fix a similar issue.

Is there an option for a stereo soundtrack on the DVDs you're watching (i.e. actually within the film / TV show's menu)? This might solve the issue.

Hi,

Yes I have applied the latest patches.
I asked Cyrus about the problem and they told me

"The 8xpd can decode SPDIF inputs that are stereo up to 24bit 96kHz Fs.

If the display reads 'Invalid Format' the incoming bit-stream is
outside of this specification, probably the DVD is outputting digital
audio sampled at 192kHz."

Is it possible to get/can anyone recommend a DVD play that outputs its digital audio at 24bit 96kHz Fs?

Thanks
