Have been happily using spotify for a few month's now but when i tried to open spotify today McAffe security centre kicked in and said it had detected and removed a virus, have looked in in McAfees detection log and this is what it say's......

One or more items detected on your computer.

Detection name:W32/IRCbot.gen.z(virus),W32/IRCbot.gen.z(virus)

File:C:program FilesSpotifyspotify.exe

Process:C:WindowsExplorer.EXE

Process description:Windows Explorer

Hopefully the I.T savvy amongst you will know what this means, and how to solve the problem,Also completely removed spotify from pc now and when i try to download and re-install spotify it's being blocked by McAffe for the same reason as above.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a false positive from McAfee - type "W32/IRCbot.gen.z" into Google and then click on the link which starts "McAfee has removed PowerDVD.exe" - this has people getting the same issue with PowerDVD and Spotify. I think there's a link in there on what to do.

EDIT - ah reading the response fully, looks like an update is being released to sort the problem.

Just found this statement:

"McAfee has been made aware that some users are experiencing an issue with Spotify. A fix will be provided in today's regular signature file update. McAfee would like to apologise to any customers affected by this issue and reassure them that this is being addressed as a matter of urgency."

So I guess as long as you have the auto-update of virus definitions on, it should just download as and when they release it.

The scan and update's happen seperately usually.

When you open up the security centre it tells you at the bottom of the page when the last scan, last update check etc was, though with mine at least it usually installs update's in the evening and i get a pop-up box+ alert in bottom right of the screen to tell me updates have been downloaded/installed.
