Similar size and price. Has anyone heard both?

Which do you prefer? How do they differ?

Thoughts?

I can't talk about the SCM40, but the Spendor D7s are fantastic. I have actually bought a pair for my stereo system at home (use them with a Quad Elite Pre, QSP Power and Michell Gyro SEduction), and they have forced me to relisten to my entire record collection again!

The precision in the top end is so good that its made me hear lyrics correctly for the first time! I can't recommend these speakers highly enough.

Also worth a listen at a slightly higher price point are the B&W 804D and the Kudos Super 20s. :)

I concur with the above view on the D7. I have not heard the SCM40 mk2 but I have listened to the SCM40 mk1 many times and everytime they have left me underwhelmed no matter how much I wanted to like them.

To me there's a nice sense of ease and naturalness about the D7, which contrasts with the SCM40 which sound constipated in comparison. I have also listened to the SCM11 mk2 and the same constipated sound applies.
