Speakers to match quad 34 and 405-2?

Thanks for aiding me in clearing up my preamp confusion!

now to what I actually wanted to learn from your expertise:

what sort of bookshelf speakers (budget up to £299) would suit a quad 34 preamp and 405-2 power amplifier?

so far I found out that the power amp has an output per channel of 80w....

Well, have seen Quad 11L speakers for sale for £200-250 from time to time...

What sort of sound do you like?

The Wharfdale Diamond 10.1 have received a lot of good press and would leave £100 for some stands and speaker cable.

The 405-2 should drive those little beasties OK but I'm not sure how low the impedance drops. The original 405 amp design was at it's best with 8ohm speakers as low impedance drops didn't suit it due to current limiting.

that lower price would be welcomed!

the assistant in my local hifi shop (chew & osborne?) said that wharfedale were no good so I discounted them, next time I will pay less attention to him!!!!!

a review I just read has the original spec sheet and says it is designed for speakers from 4-16ohm, so they sound ok!

I would have bought them from richer sounds but they do not stock them, can you recommend a good shop?
